What is Picturing Pigs?

Picturing Pigs is a grassroots art and advocacy project dedicated to depicting pigs positively—as sentient creatures that deserve care and compassion.

“Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work; you don’t give up.”

— Anne Lamott

Our Work

  • Billboards

We have put up several billboards along I-40 in eastern N.C.

  • Stories

We are collaborating with animal rescue groups and sanctuaries to share stories about pigs.

  • Film

A short documentary film is currently in production, featuring the Picturing Pigs team.

While the title of our project names pigs in particular, we stand in solidarity with all factory farmed animals. We initially chose to highlight pigs due to the strength of the pork industry’s lobbying—evidenced by the successful rejection of every animal welfare bill that has come before the NC legislation in the past twenty years.

Picturing Pigs thanks the Culture & Animals Foundation for their vision, commitment to changing culture through art and scholarship, and for their ongoing support and advice.
